12/15/2013 flight cancelled
CANCEL our Fly-In to HESPERIA (L26) this Sunday. That airport must be a
jinx.
I've been watching a few weather websites and they all predict HIGH WIND
WARNINGS. Not good for L26 with one runway and it's a rather short without
much room to maneuver in case you get an unexpected high gust.
I was considering Riverside as an alternate, but Ontario and March AFB,
both are close to Riverside, are also forecasting high winds. No use in
pushing our luck. There's always another day to do a fun Fly-In.
Also 3-4 people who called me BEFORE this email said were not coming
because of HIGH WIND WARNINGS.
So another scrub for L26.
Maybe we'll try L26 or maybe Chiriaco Summit on the third Sunday of next
month, Jan 19.
Which would you guys prefer, Hesperia (jinxed) or Chiriaco Summit L77)?
I'll info everyone when I get feed-back from you guys. Thus far two pilots
want to give Hesperia another go... maybe just to break the jinx.
It's our San Diego winter time so this variable weather shouldn't be a big
surprise. Can't complain though... look at the East Coast.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

Hesperia on 12/15/2013
Boy, did I get sucked in by yesterday's forecast for the Sun, Nov 17th
Fly-In to Hesperia. I know a few of also cancelled due to the forecast for
low clouds and gusty winds along the route, so join the club. It turned out
to be a decent day. However, in view of that, there were broken 4-5000'
broken clouds over Ontario and some 25-30 knot wind gusts at Hesperia. So
maybe it was best we didn't push our luck.
OK, on Sun, Dec 15th we'll try another flight to Hesperia (L26) for brunch
at the Mile High Café. It's our "winter" months so let's hope the WX will
cooperate.
My cell will be on until around 0945 lift off for any last
minute changes.
Best of clear skies and tail winds.

NO GO FOR L26
NO GO for our Hesperia (L26) Fly-In tomorrow. Our "winter" is still great
compared to other places.
Some mid-level ceilings with some rain on the route to L26, not to mention
the gusty winds which doesn't make for a fun Fly-In flight.
We'll give L26 another shot on Dec 15th.

2013-10-20 Calexico
Seven people in four planes enjoyed a CAVU flight there.
From Brown Field Dennis in a RV3, from MYF Jim in a 337 and Gary & John in a 172 and from SEE Jeff, Jerry and Tony in a 172.
We had the usual "hangar flying session" over breakfast and talked about the next Fly-In. It'll be on Sun, Nov 17th to either Hesperia (L26) or Apple Valley (APV), depending on which would still have a restaurant open.
APV's restaurant phone is disconnect so I figured they're still closed. L26's "Mile High" restaurant says they're open seven days a week, so that's where we'll go for the next Fly-In.
Hope to see you there.
My cell will be on until around 0945 lift off for any last minute changes.
Best of clear skies and tail winds,
Tony Tex.

Good Fly-In to FUL on Sun, Sep 22. FUL is a nice "laid back" airport with a friendly tower.
Nine people in five planes made this one in bright blue skies with a some puffy clouds and fairly smooth air.
From Brown came Dennis in an RV3 and from Montgomery came Neil & Bill in a Mooney; John & Gary in a 172; Mike & Chris in a 172 and Jim & Tony in 337.
We did the usual "hangar flying" at FLYER'S DINER and agreed the WX has cooled down enough to head out to the desert for future Fly-Ins.
So the next Fly-In will be on Oct 20th to Calexico (CLX).
Hope to see you all there.
My cell will be on until around 0945 lift off for any last minute changes.
Best of clear skies and tail winds.

Hi Guys, We couldn't ask for a better CAVU day for our Fly-In to Cable (CCB) on Sunday, April 21st.
Seven people in four planes made this Fly-In.
Kurt & Linda in a Bonanza from SEE, Dennis in a RV3 from SDM, Gary & John in a 172 from MYF and Jim & Tony in a 337 also from MYF.
Initially at MYF it was 1/4 mile vis and 100' ceiling but it cleared to CAVU early and everyone was off the deck by 1000. En route it was also CAVU all the way to CCB.
We had planned to have brunch outside in the patio at maniac-Mikes Café', but the locals beat us to it. However, Kurt & Linda got there early and saved us seats inside the café.
Just outside the café, they staged a mock western shoot-out. Something new at CCB.
After the a few aviation stories like, "There I was inverted at 200' on short final," we decided the next Fly-In will be to Pomona (POC) on Sunday, May 19th.
Flying back to the SAN area it stayed CAVU and was another great flight back home and an ending to a great Fly-In with fellow pilots.
I will be available via cell until around 0945 lift off for any last minute changes.
Best of clear skies and tail winds.

On Jan 20/2013 Apple Valley
The Fly-In to APPLE VALLEY (APV) yesterday was really great.
Eight people & four planes made this Fly-In and had breakfast at the newAPV restaurant at Wild Willies. It was a spectacular smooth, CAVU day. It seldom gets any better thanthat. As one pilot said, it justifies the money we spend on flying.
Flying from SEE was Kurt, Linda and Bob in a A-36; also from SEE cameJeff, Jerry and Tony in a C-172; and from SDM came Dennis in an RV3; andfrom LAS Jim flew in a C-337.
We did the usual hangar flying and decided the February Fly-In will be toCalexico (CXL) on Sunday, February 17th.
Hope to talk to you in the air on 123.45 or see you at the airport.
My cell will be on until lift off around 0945.
Best of clear skies and tailwinds,
Tony Tex

2013-06-16 French Valley
The Fullerton (FUL) Fly-In on Sunday June 16th had three people and one plane. I should have known because it was Father's Day.
A few pilots called in to say they weren't making the Fly-In. Jim Newport, my grandson Michael and myself in the Sky Master made this Fly-In. FUL was "VFR iffy", so we decided to make a quick hop to French Valley. WOW, the restaurant was crowded. They even had people waiting to get in. Again, Father's Day.
Next Fly-In will be on Sunday, July 14th to Riverside (RAL).
My cell will be on until around 0945 lift off for any last minute changes.
Best of clear skies and tail winds.
